IASTM & Muscle Scraping in St Albans
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) uses medical-grade stainless steel tools to break down scar tissue and fascial adhesions that hands and standard massage can't reach. It's commonly known as Graston Therapy and is widely used in professional sports recovery.
We're currently the only clinic in Hertfordshire offering IASTM alongside Hijama and clinical cupping. That combination means we can address restrictions at multiple layers of tissue in a single session, which is something you won't find at a standard massage clinic.
Every session is one-to-one, fully tailored, and delivered in a private clinical setting. Your practitioner, Abdus Shahid, holds an International Diploma in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation, a Myofascial Cupping Practitioners Diploma, and a Diploma in Trigger Point Therapy through OMT Training.
How does it work?
The tools are drawn across the skin with controlled pressure, creating friction that targets fascial restrictions and scar tissue underneath. This triggers a localised response that stimulates the body's natural repair process, helping to break down adhesions and restore normal movement to the muscles and connective tissue.
It's not gentle, and you'll feel it working. But clients consistently report a noticeable improvement in mobility and a reduction in tightness from the first session. We combine it with cupping and manual work for a more complete recovery.
What clients come to us for
These are the three outcomes people most commonly report after IASTM sessions.
Scar tissue & adhesion release
Old injuries, post-surgery tightness, and chronic "knots" that have become permanent fixtures in your movement. IASTM reaches restrictions that manual massage can't get to.
Improved mobility
Clients regularly notice an increase in range of motion after their first session. Useful for anyone who lifts, runs, sits at a desk all day, or just feels stiffer than they used to.
Faster recovery
The mobilisation draws fresh blood flow to the treated area, which supports the repair of stressed or overworked tissue. Often combined with cupping for a more thorough recovery.
Why we combine IASTM with cupping
Most clinics offer one or the other. We're the only clinic in Hertfordshire that combines IASTM with clinical cupping (dry or wet) in the same session. The IASTM breaks down the restriction. The cupping decompresses the tissue and draws waste away from the area. Together they address the problem at multiple layers, which is why clients who've tried both separately often say the combination is noticeably more effective.
This isn't a gimmick or upsell. It's just a better way to treat stubborn restrictions.
Commonly treated conditions
Clients often come to us with these issues. IASTM is particularly effective for restrictions that haven't responded to massage or stretching alone.
Plantar fasciitis
Commonly used to address the thick fascial restriction along the sole of the foot that causes heel and arch pain.
Tennis / golfer's elbow
Helps reduce tension in the forearm tendons and surrounding tissue. Often combined with cupping on the affected area.
Lower back stiffness
Targets the thoracolumbar fascia to release restriction and improve spinal rotation. One of the most common reasons clients book.
Shoulder impingement
Works on restrictions around the rotator cuff and surrounding tissue to restore smoother overhead movement.

IASTM is included in both of our recovery sessions. Every session also includes a full assessment, sterile setup, and written aftercare.
