Traditional fire cupping for deep warmth, suction and tension release
Fire cupping uses traditional glass cups and a brief flame to create suction before the cup is placed on the skin. It is chosen by clients who want a warmer, traditional cupping feel for deep back stiffness, shoulder tightness and long-standing tension.
No flame touches the skin. The flame is used inside the glass cup to create the vacuum, then the cup is placed safely on the body. Private one-to-one clinic based in St Albans, serving Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
What makes fire cupping different
What it is
What is fire cupping?
Fire cupping is a traditional form of cupping therapy using glass cups and a flame to create suction. A flame is briefly placed inside the glass cup to warm the air, then the flame is removed and the cup is placed on the skin. As the air cools, it creates a vacuum that gently lifts the skin and soft tissue.
The flame does not touch your body. The warmth clients feel comes from the glass and the suction effect, not from direct heat on the skin. The result is a firm pull with a warmer, more traditional feel than mechanical dry cupping.

Common reasons
What fire cupping may help with
These are common reasons clients book fire cupping at our St Albans clinic from across Hertfordshire.
Who it suits
Who fire cupping is for
Fire cupping tends to suit people who carry deeper, long-standing tension and prefer a warmer treatment feel. It is especially popular with clients who have tried standard dry cupping and want a more traditional glass cup experience.
It can also suit clients who respond well to heat-based therapy or who feel their back, shoulders and traps become tighter in colder weather.
If fire cupping is not the right fit for your situation, we will advise whether dry cupping, Hijama or a recovery session would be a better starting point.

Chinese cupping
Fire cupping and Chinese cupping: what is the difference?
If you found this page by searching for Chinese cupping, Chinese cupping therapy, glass cupping or flame cupping, you are in the right place. The glass cups and flame method are visually similar to what many people know from Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The difference is in the treatment approach. Chinese cupping is usually explained through Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts. At Herts Cupping, the practical method is used within our Hijama, cupping and soft tissue recovery approach.
Choose the right method
Fire cupping, dry cupping or Hijama?
All three are available at our St Albans clinic. The right choice depends on whether you want traditional glass cupping, non-invasive pump cupping, or Hijama wet cupping.
Fire cupping
Traditional glass cups, heat-created suction and a warmer treatment feel. No incisions and no direct flame on skin.
Dry cupping
Plastic pump cups, no heat and no incisions. Commonly used for sports recovery, movement work and first-time cupping.
Hijama wet cupping
Wet cupping with small superficial scratches after suction. Chosen for Sunnah Hijama and traditional wet cupping.
Safety and marks
Is fire cupping safe?
Fire cupping is safe when performed by a trained practitioner using suitable glass cups and controlled technique. The flame is only used briefly inside the cup and does not touch your body. We carry out a consultation first to check whether fire cupping is appropriate for you.
Fire cupping can leave circular marks similar to other forms of cupping. These marks are usually painless and commonly fade within a few days, although this varies by person and suction level.
When to get medical advice first
Do not book cupping as a replacement for medical assessment if you have severe unexplained pain, numbness, weakness, fever, infection, suspected fracture, suspected blood clot, unexplained swelling, recent trauma or symptoms that are getting worse. Message us first if you are unsure.
Need a more comprehensive session?
If fire cupping alone is not enough for your level of tension, our combined recovery sessions can add deep tissue work and IASTM muscle scraping to address tightness that standalone cupping has not fully resolved.
Targeted Recovery
Targeted cupping, deep tissue and IASTM for ongoing tightness or recurring pain.
Full Body Recovery
Multiple problem areas or full body tension. Our most comprehensive combined session.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is fire cupping therapy?
Fire cupping uses traditional glass cups and a brief flame to create suction on the skin. The flame heats the air inside the cup, then the flame is removed and the cup is placed on the body. As the air cools, it creates a vacuum that lifts the tissue upward.
Does the fire touch my skin?
No. The flame is used inside the glass cup before placement. Nothing hot touches your skin directly. The warmth comes from the glass and the suction effect.
Does fire cupping hurt?
Most clients describe it as a strong pulling sensation with gentle warmth. It should not feel sharp or burning. Suction and cup placement are adjusted around your comfort.
What is the difference between fire cupping and dry cupping?
Both use suction without incisions. Fire cupping uses glass cups and a brief flame to create suction. Dry cupping uses plastic pump cups with no heat. Fire cupping has a warmer, traditional glass cup feel.
Is fire cupping the same as Chinese cupping?
The glass cups and flame method are very similar to traditional Chinese cupping. Our approach uses the same practical fire cupping method within the Herts Cupping Hijama, cupping and recovery framework.
How long do fire cupping marks last?
Marks commonly fade within a few days, although this varies depending on the person, area treated and suction level. If visible marks matter for an event, let us know before the session.
Should I book fire cupping or Hijama?
Fire cupping is non-invasive and uses glass cups with heat-created suction. Hijama is wet cupping and includes small superficial scratches. Message first if you are unsure which option fits your goal.
