Fertility Cupping
Hijama for Fertility Support in St Albans
Hijama (wet cupping) is increasingly used by couples looking for a natural, evidence-rooted way to support reproductive health. This page is written to be straightforward and honest. It covers what Hijama may help with, what it cannot do, why both partners should consider it, and exactly how we structure fertility-focused sessions at our St Albans clinic.
What this page is, and what it isn't
We offer Hijama as a supportive treatment that may help create better physical conditions for fertility. We are not a fertility clinic. We do not diagnose fertility issues, prescribe medication, or replace specialist care. If you and your partner are trying to conceive and facing difficulties, please speak to your GP or a fertility specialist as a first step. Hijama works best alongside that care, not instead of it.
Fertility Is a Couple's Concern, Not One Partner's
One of the most common assumptions we hear is that fertility issues are "the woman's problem." This is medically inaccurate, and it leads to delayed help, unnecessary stress on relationships, and one partner carrying weight that should be shared.
~50%
of fertility difficulties involve a male factor, either alone or alongside female factors. Roughly a third are male alone.
1 in 7
couples in the UK experience difficulty conceiving at some point. Most of these have no single obvious cause.
Sperm quality, motility, and count are influenced by circulation, stress, sleep, body temperature, and overall systemic health. These are exactly the areas where Hijama is traditionally used. We strongly recommend that both partners consider Hijama if you are looking at it as a supportive option, and that the male partner gets a basic semen analysis through their GP if you have been trying for over a year (or six months if the female partner is over 35).
This is not about blame. It's about giving the best chance to both bodies, equally.
How Hijama May Support Fertility
Hijama is not a fertility treatment in the medical sense. It does not directly cause conception. What it may do is improve the physical conditions in which the body operates. The proposed benefits, drawn from traditional practice and supported by what we observe clinically, fall into a few areas.
Improved circulation to the reproductive area
Wet cupping over the lower back and sacral region encourages blood flow through the pelvic area. For both men and women, healthy circulation in this region is connected to reproductive function. In men, it relates to the testicular environment and the quality of sperm production. In women, it relates to ovarian function, uterine lining quality, and overall pelvic health.
Stress reduction and nervous system regulation
Chronic stress affects fertility in measurable ways. It disrupts hormonal balance, suppresses ovulation, lowers sperm quality, and increases inflammation. Hijama is well known for its calming effect on the nervous system. Many clients report better sleep, lower anxiety, and a sense of physical release after sessions. For couples who have been trying for a long time, the emotional weight alone is significant. Reducing it may have indirect benefits.
Hormonal and systemic balance
Cupping is traditionally used to support the body's natural regulatory systems. The thinking is that by removing stagnation, supporting circulation, and reducing systemic stress, the endocrine system has better conditions to function. We do not claim Hijama corrects hormonal imbalances. We are saying it may support the conditions that allow the body to do so.
For men specifically
Hijama on the lower back and reproductive points may help with circulation, stress, and inflammation, all of which affect sperm health. Sperm production takes around 64 to 74 days, which is why a consistent treatment plan over several months tends to make more sense than a one-off session.
For women specifically
Sessions may support cycle regularity, ease symptoms associated with PCOS or endometriosis, reduce period pain, and improve circulation through the reproductive system. Hijama is not suitable during a confirmed pregnancy, and for that reason we recommend booking your fertility sessions either during your period or in the few days immediately after, so pregnancy can be ruled out before treatment.
The Sunnah of Hijama
For Muslim clients, Hijama is part of the prophetic tradition. The Prophet ﷺ underwent it himself and recommended it for his Ummah.
"Indeed, the best of remedies you have is cupping (Hijama)."
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu). Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5371
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) discussed Hijama at length in Zād al-Maʿād, including its role in supporting bodily function and removing stagnation. While there is no specific hadith we are aware of that names Hijama as a fertility treatment, the broader Sunnah of seeking treatment, and the Prophet's ﷺ general endorsement of cupping for the body's wellbeing, make it a legitimate means to consider, alongside duʿāʾ, ṣalāh, and the proper medical pathway.

How We Structure Fertility-Focused Sessions
Fertility work isn't a single session. It's a plan over several months, structured around how the body actually responds and how long sperm and ovarian cycles take to reflect changes.
Initial Session: Signature Hijama
Foundation · £70
We always start fertility clients with a Signature Hijama. This gives full coverage across the Sunnah points and the six fertility-specific points. The first session sets a baseline, addresses general stagnation in the body, and works on the lower back and sacral region where most of the fertility-focused points sit. A full assessment is included so we understand your wider health picture before building the plan.
Follow-Up Sessions: Targeted Fertility Points
Maintenance · From £50
After the foundation session, follow-ups are lighter and more focused. We work specifically on the fertility points without repeating full-body coverage every time. This allows the body to respond progressively without being over-treated. Most follow-ups fit into the Starter Hijama format because they are smaller and more targeted.
Frequency & Timing
Cycle & Sunnah days
For women, we recommend booking your session either during your period or in the few days immediately after it ends. This timing matters: Hijama is not suitable during pregnancy, and booking around your cycle is the simplest way to be certain pregnancy can be ruled out before treatment. If you are actively trying to conceive, this is the safest window to choose.
For men, we space sessions every four to six weeks to align with the sperm production cycle. Where possible, we book on the recommended Sunnah days (17th, 19th, or 21st of the lunar month), but we don't insist on this when cycle timing matters more.
Plan Length
Realistic timeframe
A meaningful fertility plan typically runs over three to six months. This isn't us trying to commit you to ongoing sessions. It reflects the biological reality that sperm production takes around 10 weeks and that female cycles need a few rounds to show change. Some clients feel benefit sooner. Some need longer. We'll be honest with you either way.
What Realistic Expectations Look Like
Honesty matters more than marketing here. People dealing with fertility difficulties have often heard plenty of false promises. We aren't going to add to that.
What Hijama may help with
Improved circulation to the pelvic and reproductive areas. Reduced systemic stress. Better sleep. Easing of symptoms related to cycle irregularity, PCOS, endometriosis, and general physical tension. A sense of being more "ready" in the body.
What Hijama cannot do
It cannot unblock fallopian tubes. It cannot reverse confirmed medical infertility. It cannot replace IVF, IUI, or other assisted reproduction where they are needed. It cannot guarantee conception. Anyone who tells you otherwise is overpromising.
The honest bottom line
Hijama may help create better physical conditions in which conception is more likely. It works best alongside proper medical investigation, a healthy lifestyle, good sleep, and reduced stress. Some couples who have used it as part of their broader approach have gone on to conceive. Others have not. We treat the body. The outcome is in Allah's hands, and within the wider medical picture.
When to See a Specialist First
Hijama is supportive, not diagnostic. Some signs mean a specialist visit should come before, or alongside, any cupping sessions.
- You and your partner have been trying to conceive for over 12 months without success (or 6 months if the female partner is 35 or over)
- Irregular, very painful, or absent periods
- A confirmed diagnosis of PCOS, endometriosis, low sperm count, or any other reproductive condition
- History of pelvic surgery, infections, or known structural concerns
- Recurrent miscarriages
- Previous fertility treatment that has not been successful
In all of these cases, get the medical picture clear first. Then, if you choose to add Hijama as supportive work, we'll structure a plan that fits with what your specialist has advised.

A note on outcomes: we do not promise conception, improved fertility test results, or any specific medical outcome. Healing and outcome rest with Allah, and proper medical care should always be your first step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should both partners do Hijama, or just the woman?
Both, ideally. Roughly half of fertility difficulties involve a male factor either alone or alongside female factors. If you are looking at Hijama as a supportive option, the strongest approach is for both partners to engage with it. If only one of you can attend, that's still useful, but please don't assume the issue sits with one partner without medical investigation first.
How many sessions will we need?
A meaningful plan usually runs over three to six months. We start with a Signature Hijama for full coverage, then move to lighter, fertility-focused follow-ups every four to six weeks. We'll review with you after the first two sessions and adjust based on how your body is responding.
Can I have Hijama if I'm already going through IVF or IUI?
In most cases yes, but timing matters. We avoid Hijama in the days immediately before and during stimulation cycles, embryo transfer, and any confirmed pregnancy. Please tell us where you are in your cycle when you book so we can plan accordingly. If you're unsure, ask your fertility consultant first.
When in my cycle should I book a fertility session?
For fertility-focused sessions, we recommend booking either during your period or in the few days immediately after it has finished. This timing rules out the chance of an early, undetected pregnancy, since Hijama is not suitable during pregnancy. Menstruation itself is not a barrier to Hijama, that's a matter for prayer, not for treatment. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll find a slot that fits your cycle.
Is there a female practitioner available?
Yes. We have a female practitioner available on request for female clients. Please WhatsApp us to confirm her availability before booking.
What if I'm pregnant and only just found out?
If you suspect or have confirmed pregnancy, we will not perform Hijama. Please cancel or reschedule your appointment. There is no penalty for cancelling in these circumstances. Speak to your midwife or GP, and we'll be here when you're ready in the future.
Does fertility Hijama work?
Hijama may help create better physical conditions for fertility, primarily through improved circulation, reduced stress, and general systemic support. It is not a guaranteed treatment for infertility. Some couples have found it helpful as part of a wider approach. Others have not. We are honest with everyone we treat about what is realistic, and we always encourage proper medical investigation alongside any sessions with us.
Do you offer this in Watford, Hemel, or other Hertfordshire towns?
All sessions are at our St Albans clinic, which is easily reachable from Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield, Stevenage, Welwyn, and the wider area. Free parking is available.
