Our Story

Before I opened the clinic, I'd spent years dealing with my own physical issues. A lot of physio. A lot of massage. Plenty of advice. Some of it helped. A lot of it didn't really get to the root of the problem. The deeper I looked, the more drawn I became to holistic and alternative therapies, treatments that worked with the body's own systems rather than just managing symptoms week to week. Hijama stood out. It was ancient, it had a place in the Sunnah, and the more I read into the modern research, the clearer it became that there was real science behind what tradition had been doing for over a thousand years.

The issue was, what I was looking for didn't really exist locally, not at the standard I wanted. So in 2023 I opened Herts Cupping, because there was genuinely nowhere in Hertfordshire offering Hijama to the level I believed it should be done. The options were either travelling into London, or settling for home-based setups with questionable hygiene. Neither felt right. I wanted to bring Hijama into the kind of clean, private, properly clinical setting it deserves, while keeping the holistic philosophy that makes it different from conventional medicine in the first place.

The demand was there from day one. We opened our permanent St Albans clinic shortly after launching and haven't looked back. What started as a Hijama practice quickly grew into something broader once I realised, both from my own experience and from working with clients, that cupping alone wasn't always enough. Some bodies need deeper work on the fascia and soft tissue that standard massage just doesn't reach. Holistic therapy isn't about choosing one technique. It's about choosing the right combination for each person.

As the clinic grew, the treatment approach developed around what clients actually needed. Hijama remains the foundation of Herts Cupping, but some clients also benefit from deeper hands-on recovery work when cupping alone is not enough. That is why we offer cupping massage, soft tissue work and IASTM where suitable, not as the headline of the brand, but as extra tools to support better outcomes. The focus remains simple: professional Hijama and cupping therapy in a clean, private Hertfordshire clinic.

Clinical Standards & Practitioner Trust

Herts Cupping is built around professional Hijama in a proper private clinic setting. The focus is not just the treatment itself, but the safety, hygiene, consultation and aftercare around it.

Only Dedicated Hijama Clinic in Hertfordshire

A specialist clinic focused on Hijama, cupping therapy and recovery support, not a general massage room offering cupping as a side service.

Sterile Single-Use Setup

Hijama blades, disposables and clinical waste procedures are handled with strict hygiene standards on every session.

Proper Consultation First

Every session starts with a discussion around your health, goals, suitability and the areas that need attention.

Certified Practitioner

Treatments are carried out by a certified Hijama practitioner with additional cupping, trigger point and soft tissue training.

Private One-to-One Room

No shared treatment space, no group setting and no rushed conveyor-belt appointments.

Clear Aftercare

You leave with guidance on what to do after treatment, what to avoid and when to book again if needed.

Most Treatments Push Down. We Lift Up.

Standard massage often works by pressing tissue downwards. Cupping works differently. It uses controlled suction to lift the tissue, decompress tight areas and create a different type of release. That is one reason clients who have already tried massage often notice that cupping feels different.

We do not run fixed routines. Every session starts with a proper assessment, and the treatment is built around what your body actually needs that day, whether that is targeted Hijama, dry cupping, fire cupping or a deeper recovery session.

Who You'll Be Working With

This is a small clinic by design. I would rather do fewer sessions properly than more sessions badly. Every client is treated in a private setting with proper consultation, hygiene standards and aftercare.

Abdus Shahid

Lead Practitioner · Hijama & Cupping Specialist

Every Hijama and Cupping Massage session at the clinic is with me, personally. I came into this work after years of dealing with my own physical issues and a deep interest in holistic, alternative therapies, and that shapes how I treat every client. I take the time to understand what is going on with your body, build a plan around it, and make sure you leave with clear aftercare. I do not take multiple clients at once and I do not hand you off to someone else.
